Perfect day for shooting clays

Once again our perfect Spring weather in the North East of Vic. allowed shooters absolutely ideal conditions competing at the Wangaratta Clay Target Club’s September DTL championship.  The event attracted 9 squads of trap shooters, with the Continental trap again proving very popular.

James Willett shot a perfect result of 32/32 in the Continental championship winning overall.  Justin Smith shot another good result of 31/32 to win 2nd place in AA grade.  A score of 29/30 by Andrew Evans won A grade ahead of Steven Murphy 38/40.  Another nice result of 29/30 won a sash for B grader Shane McCulloch with Peter Green taking 2nd with 28/30.  C grade results were Billy Hay in 1st with 27/30 ahead of Jim Old 23/30.

The Dick English Memorial handicap was expertly won by Daryl Hunt.  Daryl is a back marker and produced a perfect score of 25/25 off 25 metres, using his Blaser F3 shotgun.  Tony Plum from Benalla won 2nd on 34/35 and 3rd place to Brett Cowell 33/35.

The last event was a 50 tgt. double barrel championship. Glenn Evans shot a perfect score of 62/62 winning overall, one target ahead of Daryl Hunt 61/62.  Gordon Twamley dropped two targets winning A grade with Enio Cavedon in 2nd place.  Peter Green won B with 50/53 with Ron Gulliver in 2nd place 49/53.  C grade was again won by Billy Hay 47/50 ahead of Jim Old.

After the scores were added at the conclusion of the shoot, Daryl Hunt took out overall champ.  Enio Cavedon won the veteran trophy and Noah Calandro took out the Junior High gun award.
