Wilson wins Hugh Gun at Wangaratta

Cloudy skies prevailed on Saturday 16 August for the monthly Down The Line shoot at Wangaratta. The three 30 target championship events on offer were well received by the enthusiastic group of local and visiting trap shooters on the day.

Event 1 was a Single Barrel C/Ship. sponsored by Angelo & Wendy Grassi P/L . John Gemmill shot a clean result of 30/30 to win O/All and 1st in AA, with Jason Wilson taking 2nd on 38/39. Veteran trapshooter David Luelf dropped one target winning him A grade and Gordon Twamley, a real all rounder took 2nd place with 32/34. John Hutchison won B grade with a tally of 26/30 ahead of Ern Wemyss 21/30. C grader Bob Foster won a sash shooting 23/30 one target ahead of junior shooter Angus Beck 22/30.

The Points Score event was sponsored by Peter Antonello & family. This was nicely won by AA grade Terry Walls 114/115 with Jason Wilson just behind on 113/115. Tony Plum achieved a win in A grade 86/90 ahead of Phil. Woods. Again, John Hutchison performed well to win B on 82/90 with Fred Bienvenu taking 2nd place. Lady top shot Kathleen Wilkins won C grade achieving 78/90 points and Tom McGrath in 2nd place with 72/90.

The final C/Ship. for the day was a double barrel event and resulted in high gun winner Jason Wilson taking out O/All and AA grade after a shoot off with Max Gribben, 129/129 and 128/129 respectively. David Luelf took home another sash in A grade 69/70 with Phil. Woods in 2nd place on 46/47. Ern Wemyss won B grade with Fred Bienvenu in 2nd place. Fred’s results have improved of late, which has been a real confidence booster for him. Tom McGrath shot 27/30 winning C grade and Bob Foster finished 2nd.

The high gun trophies for the day were awarded to:

O/All - Jason Wilson 158/160, Veteran – David Luelf 153/160, Junior – Ben Antonello 146/150 and Ladies – Tina White 135/160.

Our photo taken at the shoot is of Shane McCulloch and his 15 year old daughter Hayley, visiting from Shepparton. Shane’s wife Leeona and Hayley’s twin sister Emma, both absent on the day are also keen trap shooters. The family are all members of the Echuca clay target club. Shane has been involved in the sport for over 20 years and with his wife Leeona enthusiastically support their twins in their chosen sport. Hayley commenced shooting when she was 12 and earlier this month won 2nd place in the Single Barrel event at the Combined District Senior Schools shoot at Echuca. Her sister Emma also achieved great success at this large event by taking out 1st place with a result of 16/20.
